ETHICS WORKSHOP: SUNDAY MORNING , 7 MAY 8.30- 12.30 AT UBUBELE, No 1, 10th Road, KEW

Topic:  the Children’s Act and the ethical issues arising for therapists, for those working with children as well as those whose client or patient base  means that they are likely to be touched by  children, such as divorced parents.

Format: Talks (Sheri Davimes and Luke Lamprecht) followed by a panel leading a discussion of ethical dilemmas.

Topic: Basic provisions of the act with emphasis on child protection, sexual abuse, domestic violence, consent issues, age of sexual consent, links to different acts, guidelines, and policies.

Suggested ethical dilemmas:  intrusive parenting and contamination of the therapy; parental differences around issues of consent; ethical responsibilities around working with young adults who are disclosing risk behaviours; reporting to welfare and other organisations – the responsibilities of the practitioner; unpacking the relationship between the practitioner and other institutions such as the school;; the impact of the social media on the therapeutic frame.

WE ASK PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED ETHICAL ISSUES IN THESE AREAS TO SUBMIT NOTES WHICH CAN THEN FORM PART OF THE MATERIAL FOR THE PANEL DISCUSSION.  These dilemmas can be sent to Marnie (marnie.vujovic@righttocare.org ) and/ or Felicity (felicityvanv@gmail.com) on or before 20 April, 2017.
